How to Source Jewelry for Milk + Honey's Breastmilk Jewelry DIY Kit!

Maria MengelComment

One of the most common questions we receive when people are considering our DIY kit is: How do I source jewelry to make?!

The short answer is: Resources are in the handbook! But I wanted to take some time and give you an extra hand when searching for jewelry. While we offer the choice of an Oval Necklace (available in silver, 14k yellow gold fill, and 14k rose gold fill) or our Signature Silver Milk+Honey(comb) Necklace (exclusively available on our website) with your DIY Kit, when we created our DIY kit, it was important to us that our customers could make many pieces with a small amount of breast milk (only 5ml, about a teaspoon, is needed!). You can use our kit to craft up to 15 pieces of breast milk jewelry, try new and creative things, and have many pieces to mix and match, for a truly LOW price! After I share some resources and ideas for sourcing your jewelry, I’ll do a big budget breakdown at the end of this post. Be prepared for me to knock your socks off—it’s truly incredible what you can do with our kit and some very affordable jewelry!

In last week’s blog post, I shared the step-by-step process of making your jewelry, using our kit. So you know exactly what you’re getting into! It is so much more simple than you could imagine.

For the sake of this blog post, I’m going to pretend like I am searching for a variety of metal types (silver, gold, and rose gold), and like I’m wanting lots of variety in my jewelry! I’m searching for earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces, etc! I found some fun, unique things on etsy that we don’t offer in our milk + honey jewelry collection :)

First of all, I’m searching for “bezel cup jewelry”. Sometimes using the terms “bezel blank” is helpful, which essentially means that the cup is empty. Your bezel cup should have a full base, and walls all the way around the sides, so that you can pour your resin/milk mixture into the cup.

A bezel cup that has a hole, or opening, in the base, will not work with our DIY kit. Here’s an example of something that won’t work.

Okay! Let’s find some pretty jewelry to make! First I want a couple of rings!

Double Wire Round Ring — $13

I found this pretty thing when I searched for “round bezel silver ring”. I love the double band!

Silver Spiral Wire Oval Ring — $9.18

I searched simply for “oval bezel ring” and found this one with the pretty spiral band!

Plain Round Rose Gold Bezel Ring — $10

I wanted something in rose gold (always search for yellow gold FILL, or rose gold FILL. Gold plated jewelry is junk). I like the minimalist look of this little 6mm stone!

Yellow Gold Wave Double Bezel Ring — $72.99

This one was my splurge purchase! It’s SO beautiful and very unique! I found it by searching “round bezel gold ring” on etsy and just scrolling through the pages until it caught my eye!

Silver Pear Ring with CZs — $24.95

This ring is a little “fancier”, but still super affordable at only $25. I searched for “pear bezel ring” and “teardrop bezel ring” to find this one!

Silver Pear Dangly Earrings - $10.80

Sticking with the silver pear theme, I found these cute earrings that would pair well with the ring above! I searched for “bezel cup dangly earrings”, and these popped up!

Yellow Gold Fill Rectangle Studs — $5.98

I was picturing these cute little tiny earrings in a second or third earring hole! They are minimal and petite, and would look perfect for that!

Silver Heart Studs — $19.99

These are so cute! I’ll bet these heart studs would be perfect if you had a little daughter who had her ears pierced!

Pear Pendant - $7.30

I thought this sweet little silver pendant would “pear” well with the other silver pear pieces! (get it?). I would probably only purchase the silver one. It’s 925 sterling silver, but the others appear to be yellow and rose gold plated. I came across this by searching “pear bezel pendant”.

Heart Pendant — $10.96

Okay I couldn’t resist this! If you’re trying those silver stud earrings for a daughter, you’ve got to pair it with this pendant! So cute! I just searched “silver heart bezel pendant”.

Rose Gold Fill 6mm Round Bezel Pendants — $13.87

Ok these are super cute, small and petite, and they come in a 4-pack, so you can actually try different designs and colors in each! My thought is: if you bought the 4-pack, you could only buy one chain, and switch the pendant out, depending on what you’re wearing. Remember: purchase rose and yellow gold FILL, not rose and yellow gold PLATED. (if you want them to look good for more than two weeks lol).

Necklace Chains — $13.99

You’ll need chains for these pendants. There are a million kinds of chains out there, and you can find them easily on etsy or amazon. Search for either sterling silver, yellow gold fill, or rose gold fill. Again, you don’t want “plated” jewelry. Here are some 18 inch sterling silver cable chains I found. If I was making this cart, I’d get two. One for the pear pendant and one for the heart pendant.

Rose Gold Necklace Chain — $10

And here is a rose gold fill cable necklace chain that I found. It’s only $10 for 18 inches! Again, I’d order one, and switch the pendants out!

Silver Flower Cuff Bracelet — $16.50

I stumbled upon this bracelet and had to share it! I just searched “bracelet bezel blank” and this one popped up in the search. It’s much more “raw” and “vintage” than the other pieces I shared, but it’s adorable and I’m sure someone will love it. There are SO many more bracelet options than I anticipated!

Ok I’ve got to stop somewhere! Let’s add all of these up and see what our total is! Remember, ONE Milk + Honey DIY Kit makes up to 15 pieces, so we could potentially even buy more than this! And the options really are endless. I found SO many unique and fun pieces, in all jewelry styles, in all metal types. It just takes a little time to search through etsy, but that has been where I’ve had the best luck finding bezel pieces!
